Youth Tour

The Washington Youth Tour is an all-expense paid, week-long trip to Washington, D.C. to experience our nation's capitol. The first two days of the trip are spent in Atlanta with students from across Georgia. The next five days are spent in Washington, D.C. with over 1,500 students from across the nation. Delegates observe the workings of the government, gain knowledge of electric cooperatives, visit with their representatives in Congress, all while meeting new friends.

The Washington Youth Tour was inspired by former president Lyndon Johnson who encouraged electric co-ops "to send youngsters to the nation's capital where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents." Since 1964, the nation's electric cooperatives have sponsored approximately 45,000 high school juniors and seniors for the Washington Youth Tour.

Carroll EMC's Youth Tour is open to students attending a high school in Carroll, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, or Troup counties, or if Carroll EMC serves their primary residence with electricity. The student must be 16 years of age by June 12, 2008.

Children, grandchildren, or any close relative of Carroll EMC employees and directors must apply for the statewide contest.
